Protocol Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 September 2026

Protocol is a Burger Labs iPhone app for organising medications, peptides, supplements, dose schedules, bloodwork and health metrics. It is a personal tracking and organisation tool. It does not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, determine dosages or provide medical advice.

What Protocol is

Protocol helps you organise information you enter about protocols, medications, supplements, peptides, schedules, inventory, bloodwork and health metrics. It is not a medical device and it does not provide medical advice.

Protocol is published by Burger Labs. Some Protocol materials also use the Protocol Labs product name. Product-website privacy copy also lives at protocollabs.co.za/privacy. This page is the Burger Labs product privacy policy for Protocol.

Information you enter

Protocol may store information you enter or create, including protocols, medications, supplements and peptides; doses, schedules and dose history; preparation or reconstitution details; reminders and inventory; health measurements and goals; symptoms and check-ins; notes; bloodwork reports and extracted values; and app preferences.

This is information you choose to provide. Protocol does not require a Burger Labs account and does not automatically upload these records to a Burger Labs or Protocol Labs server.

What stays on your device

Protocol records are stored locally on your iPhone until you delete them, use an in-app option to remove Protocol data, or remove the app and its local storage.

If you back up this iPhone with Apple (for example iCloud Backup), that backup may include Protocol’s local app data. Protocol does not operate its own cloud backup or account sync service.

Optional app lock uses Apple’s Local Authentication, such as Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode. Protocol does not receive or store your biometric template or device passcode.

What may leave the device

Health and protocol records leave Protocol’s local storage only when you take an action such as:

  • Exporting or sharing a PDF, CSV, backup or report;
  • Saving a file to Files, iCloud, email, messaging, AirDrop or another app;
  • Connecting Apple Health and allowing specific categories;
  • Using the optional Apple Watch companion, which syncs with the paired iPhone through Apple’s WatchConnectivity;
  • Emailing support or feedback.

The destination you choose — including Apple, iCloud or another app — then handles that copy under its own terms. Review the content before you share it.

Apple Health

Connecting Apple Health is optional and controlled by Apple’s permission sheet. Importing from Apple Health and writing measurements to it are Protocol Pro features. During first-run setup, iOS may still ask for HealthKit access before Pro is purchased; importing and syncing stay Pro-gated.

If you grant permission, Protocol may read only the health and fitness categories you authorise, and may write specific measurements to Apple Health when you enable that feature and save them.

Apple controls HealthKit permissions. You can change them in Apple Health. Protocol does not use HealthKit information for advertising, marketing, data mining or automated diagnosis, and does not sell it.

Information stored in Apple Health is controlled separately. Uninstalling Protocol may not delete information previously written to Apple Health.

Bloodwork documents

When you select a bloodwork document, text recognition and proposed result extraction run on your device using Apple’s on-device Vision framework. You can review and correct proposed values before saving them. Bloodwork documents and extracted results are not automatically sent to Burger Labs or to a third-party processing service.

Apple Watch and notifications

The Apple Watch companion is a Protocol Pro feature. If you use it, Protocol may transfer relevant protocol, schedule, reminder and completion information between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch through Apple’s WatchConnectivity. Burger Labs does not receive that transfer.

If you allow notifications, Protocol schedules local notifications on your device for reminders you configure. Protocol does not use a Burger Labs push-notification service to transmit your health or protocol records.

Accounts, subscriptions and analytics

No Burger Labs account is required.

Protocol Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription purchased through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes payment. Burger Labs does not receive your payment card details. StoreKit on the device is used to determine whether Pro features should be available. Cancelling or letting a subscription expire does not delete locally stored Protocol data.

Protocol does not include third-party advertising, cross-app tracking or third-party analytics SDKs. Burger Labs does not sell Protocol health information.

Support and privacy questions

If you email support, we receive the address, message and any diagnostic details you choose to send. Diagnostic or beta feedback may include basic app and device information needed to investigate a problem. Protocol does not automatically attach your protocols, doses, health measurements or bloodwork. Please do not include sensitive health information unless it is necessary for your request.

Platform-specific information

Protocol is an iPhone app. The Apple Watch companion, Apple Health and App Store subscriptions described above apply on Apple platforms. There is no Android version of Protocol at the time of this policy.

Children’s privacy

Protocol is not directed at children under 13, or the minimum age required by applicable law. Burger Labs does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through a Protocol account or server. Do not enter another person’s health information without appropriate authority.

Your rights

Burger Labs is based in South Africa. If we hold personal information about you — typically because you emailed us — you may ask us to confirm what we hold, correct it, or delete it where that is reasonably possible. We will respond in a reasonable time.

This page explains our practices in plain language. It is not legal advice and it does not claim that Burger Labs is certified under every privacy law that may apply to you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may also contact the Information Regulator in South Africa.

Security and retention

Information stored in the app remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app, except where you exported a copy or wrote data to another service such as Apple Health. Email we receive is kept as long as needed to answer and for ordinary business records.

We take reasonable steps to protect correspondence, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect your device, keep its software current, and share exports carefully.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the product’s behaviour or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when that happens. Continued use of the product after an update means you should read the revised policy.
