ChatCrate is a Burger Labs macOS utility that copies WhatsApp Desktop exported and local media into folders named by chat. It is an independent product and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
What ChatCrate is
ChatCrate copies WhatsApp Desktop exported and local media into folders named by chat, on your Mac. Originals are not moved or deleted as part of a normal organise run.
Folders and WhatsApp data you select
ChatCrate works with folders you select. It can read media from a source you approve and write organised copies to a destination you approve. Access is limited by macOS sandboxing and the permissions you grant, including the Downloads entitlement where that applies.
To remember folders you have already approved, ChatCrate may store security-scoped bookmarks in UserDefaults on your Mac. Those bookmarks help restore access to your chosen locations; they are not a copy of your media library.
WhatsApp index on your Mac
When you point ChatCrate at WhatsApp Desktop data, it may read WhatsApp’s local ChatStorage.sqlite index on your Mac so it can match media files to chat names. It copies that database to a temporary folder, reads it, then deletes the copy.
From that index ChatCrate reads chat identifiers, chat display names, media file paths and media dates. Message bodies are not selected. Chat names and media dates are used to organise copies on disk. This processing stays on your Mac. Burger Labs does not receive the WhatsApp database, message text, or your media.
What stays on your Mac
WhatsApp media you organise with ChatCrate stays on your Mac. To skip identical media, ChatCrate may compute size and SHA-256 values locally. After a copy, verification compares file sizes between source and destination.
What may leave the device
Organise processing does not use a network entitlement. ChatCrate does not upload your WhatsApp media to Burger Labs. Links to Support or Privacy on this website open only when you choose to visit them.
If you buy ChatCrate Full Unlock, Apple’s App Store handles that purchase. Apple’s purchase machinery is separate from ChatCrate’s organise work.
Accounts, purchases and analytics
No Burger Labs account is required. ChatCrate Full Unlock is a non-consumable App Store purchase, not a subscription. Apple processes payment. Burger Labs does not receive your payment card details and does not operate a ChatCrate account system.
The current app does not include analytics, advertising trackers or third-party crash-reporting SDKs.
Support and privacy questions
If you contact Burger Labs, we receive the email address, message and any screenshots or diagnostic details you choose to send. Please do not attach private WhatsApp media or personal archives unless we specifically request a safe sample and you are authorised to share it.

Platform-specific information
ChatCrate is a Mac app. There is no iOS or Android version at the time of this policy.
Children’s privacy
ChatCrate is not directed at children. Burger Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from children through ChatCrate. WhatsApp data you organise may itself contain personal information about other people — that information stays on your Mac unless you choose to send it.
Your rights
Burger Labs is based in South Africa. If we hold personal information about you — typically because you emailed us — you may ask us to confirm what we hold, correct it, or delete it where that is reasonably possible. We will respond in a reasonable time.

Security and retention
Information stored in the app remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app, except where you exported a copy or wrote data to another service such as Apple Health. Email we receive is kept as long as needed to answer and for ordinary business records.
We take reasonable steps to protect correspondence, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect your device, keep its software current, and share exports carefully.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product’s behaviour or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when that happens. Continued use of the product after an update means you should read the revised policy.
