Privacy Policy

Effective 27 August 2026

ChatCrate is a macOS utility from Burger Labs that organises WhatsApp Desktop exported and local media into folders named by chat. This policy explains what the app accesses, what stays on your Mac, and what Burger Labs receives if you contact us.

Local file access

ChatCrate works with folders you select. It can read media from a source location you approve and write organised copies to a destination you approve. Access is limited by macOS sandboxing and the permissions you grant, including the Downloads entitlement where that applies.

To remember folders you have already approved, ChatCrate may store security-scoped bookmarks in UserDefaults on your Mac. Those bookmarks help restore access to your chosen locations; they are not a copy of your media library.

WhatsApp content on your Mac

WhatsApp Desktop media you organise with ChatCrate stays on your Mac. ChatCrate copies files into chat-named folders at the destination you choose. It does not move or delete your originals as part of a normal organise run.

ChatCrate does not read or store WhatsApp message bodies. It works with media files and the folder structure required to organise them — not with the text of conversations.

No upload, analytics or tracking SDKs

ChatCrate does not upload your WhatsApp media to Burger Labs servers. The current app does not include analytics, advertising trackers or third-party crash-reporting SDKs.

Organise processing stays on your Mac. ChatCrate is built without a network entitlement for that work. Links to Support or Privacy on the Burger Labs website open only when you choose to visit them.

Duplicate checks and verification

To skip identical media, ChatCrate may compute size and SHA-256 values for files it processes. Those checks run locally to decide whether a file is a duplicate or needs a renamed copy when names conflict.

After a copy, verification compares file sizes between source and destination. That size match is the post-copy verification step described in the product.

Support email

If you contact Burger Labs for ChatCrate support or privacy questions, we receive the email address, message and any screenshots or diagnostic details you choose to send. We use that information to answer and troubleshoot your request.

Please do not attach private WhatsApp media or personal archives unless we specifically request a safe sample and you are authorised to share it.

Children’s privacy

ChatCrate is not directed at children. Burger Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from children through ChatCrate. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us by email, contact us and we will delete it from our correspondence records where reasonably possible.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when ChatCrate’s behaviour or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when that happens. Continued use of ChatCrate after an update means you should review the revised policy.
